Smith Services, a part of Timken Power Systems, is seeking a Field Services Technician for the Princeton service center.

The Field Service Technician supports the plant both internally and externally on motor repairs, switchgear maintenance, mechanical repairs, and on-site technical support.

 

Responsibilities

Field Service Technicians must be able to work as a productive team member in a group and sometimes solo at customer industrial sites doing everyday repairs and support.  This work can be 1 day onsite and up to 2 weeks during some outages and does require some overnight stays with company paid lodging and food.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, motor removals and installs, cryogenic cleaning, on-site machining, vibration analysis, balancing, laser alignment, electrical testing, infrared thermography and switchgear testing.  Technicians are on call 24 hours a day to offer customer availability for emergency work.  Technicians travel frequently to customer sites.  Customer certifications must be obtained when necessary to be permitted on-site.  Some required certifications are Mine Safety Certification (below and above ground) and OSHA Certification.  Technicians are responsible for Smith Services customer interface and responsible for managing all customer orders and relationships.  Additionally, technicians support other shop efforts such as warranty work. 

 

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • AS Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology a plus
  • Valid Driver's License required                                                                                                                                                                
  • Ability to obtain Non-DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate
  • Ability to obtain Mine Safety Certification (below and above ground) and OSHA certification
  • 1-10 Years of Experience
  • Electic motor and Control Testing experience a plus 
  • Out of town, overnight travel required
