Purpose and Scope

The Commodity Manager is directly accountable for creating a long term, value added competitive advantage through the development, management, and collaboration of a supply base that provides quality products/services that meet/exceeds expectation to help advance the business.

Responsibilities

  • The Commodity Manager will develop commodity strategies to support business unit value drivers. Spend a significant amount of time with BU partner understanding their business and leading commodity short-term and long-term strategies to support competitive business growth.   

 

  • Develop and maintain strong internal customer and external supplier relationships to advance long-term valued added supplier partners. View suppliers as collaborative business partners to draw the most value from the relationship.

 

  • Enable supply chain and manufacturing footprint strategy execution success. 

 

  • Lead global cross functional teams, in all regions, in executing commodity strategies and sourcing recommendations for specified commodity, considering regional specific variables.  Partner in supplier identification and arranging development regardless of geography.
     
  • Collaborate with supply chain, engineering, process development, product management, legal, technology, material science, supplier quality, and manufacturing functions to develop and implement tactics that support the commodity strategy.

 

  • Analyze and apply appropriate tools and competencies, i.e. cost models, benchmarking, global competitive sourcing, value chain analysis, supplier negotiations, and complex change management.

 

  • Supplier performance management, total cost of ownership reduction and lean execution.  Manage global supplier relationship across different cultures, monitor their performance and drive continuous improvement in the areas of cost, inventory, quality, service and innovation.

 

  • Execute and lead sourcing events, activities including but not limited to: issuing RFx, analyzing data from proposals, negotiating terms and conditions, and preparing NDAs.

 

  • Monitor market price volatility and trends and apply market intelligence to the negotiations and implementation of competitive price schedules.

 

  • Develop and finalize supply agreement and service level agreements in accordance with business, financial, legal, and regulatory requirements.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum - Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Marketing, Business, Engineering or Manufacturing with 10+ years’ experience in related field
  • Preferred – Master’s degree in Supply Chain, Marketing, Business, Engineering or Manufacturing with 8+ years’ experience in related field
