Description:  Inspects cups for conformity to customer and Association of American Railroads specifications using measuring instruments to determine OD and ID dimensions. Cleans, deburrs, polishes, or grinds items of metal using a hand grinder, wire brush or buffing cloth. Assist in the assembly of cups and cones prior to the lateral operation; if required. Other tasks as assigned by the supervisor or company management.


Overall Purpose: Inspects products for conformity to customer specifications, using measuring and hand operated instruments. Repairs any minor defects found on the product that would prevent the product from meeting the requirements of conformity.  


Essential Functions:


1.         Examines product for defects such as cracks, water etchings, spalls or nicks.


2.         Does some types of minor repair.


3.         Verifies dimensions of product, using Dial indicators.


4.         Rejects or re-grades products not meeting specifications.


5.         Inputs information covering materials scrapped or salvaged.


Physical Demands & Frequency:  Requires frequent medium lifting, standing, reaching, handling, fingering and near acuity.


A.         Position: Standing.


B.         Weights & Force:  20-40 pounds 300 times a day.


C.         Use of Controls:  Use of various gauges and hand grinder.


D.         Vision must be normal (20/20).  Correctional lenses are acceptable
