Job Summary

Set-up and operate equipment within cell.


Job Functions

  1. Perform all duties as assigned in a safe and efficient manner with an emphasis on quality.  Follow Company and departmental procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.  Follow all safety rules and keep work area in a clean and orderly condition. Report any unusual conditions or situations to Set–Up Person or Supervisor.
  2. True arbor, set cutting tool speed and RPM speed properly.  Set appropriate gauges to print specifications.  Set O.D. size, face size, groove size, and chamfer size properly.
  3. Select and change cutting inserts, arbors, plugs and collets.
  4. Select and change fixtures and stamp.  Set pressure and stroke length.  Select and change work rest.
  5. Set work height rest and level, set roll time, pressure, stroke length.  Loading and unloading parts.  Set appropriate gauges to print specifications.
  6. Run 1st piece part, make necessary adjustments to attain quality characteristics per print specifications and complete necessary paperwork to attain a set-up approval.
  7. Load parts, cycle machine, check parts at designated intervals and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality characteristics of part per print specifications throughout machining operations.
  8. Package and tag parts, complete all required paperwork including SPC charting.


Physical and Visual Activities

Handling, reaching, standing, gripping, fingering, hearing, talking, walking, writing, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, far & near visual acuity, depth perception, visual accommodations.


Physical Demands: Operators are normally required to properly handle, carry move, lift and place piece parts weighing from several ounces up to 12 lbs each during the normal operation of the machine.  Operations with piece parts weighing in excess of 12 lbs may also be required on an infrequent basis.  Operators may be required to handle, push, pull lift or carry machine dies or fixtures weighing up to 80 lbs during the set-up process.  Die carts and other lifting/moving devices are required to be used when possible.  Operators are required to handle, push, pull, move and/or lift boxes, racks, pans or bins of parts weighing up to 55 lbs manually or by use of lifting/moving equipment. Operator may be required to move gauging equipment, skids or containers of parts, chips, coolant etc manually, or by the use of powered fork lifts and/or powered pallet lifters/movers (if properly licensed), pallet lifters/movers, two-wheel hand dolly, die cart/lifter, carts etc to and from all parts of the facility.

Job Qualification Requirements


General machine aptitude, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division of whole numbers including decimals, conversion of metrics, ability to read and understand blueprints and various gauging equipment.


Machine, Tools, Equipment, Software

Various lathes, roll looseners, stamp presses, surface grinders, bench grinders, washer, basic hand tools, micrometer, gauging equipment, two-wheel hand dolly, die cart/lifter, pallet lifter, weigh scale.



Written and verbal instructions, shop floor orders, Quality Assurance documentation, production, rework, scrap, and FCN documentation, Set-Up Plan, SPC charts, tool life sheets, mini capability charts.
