Purpose and Scope

This position provides leadership, direction, and support for all quality issues relating to the Quality Management System (which must comply with Timken and customer-specific requirements), the DDC Quality Manual, and procedures for the Duncan Distribution Center.  This position is also the lead FAA / PMA production approval representative, DMIR, and is accountable to the FAA Atlanta MIDO office. This role champions the Quality Manual to assure plant-wide compliance to ISO-9001 and IATF-16949 standards and supervises the activities of associates to support customer requirements, including the direct supervision and development of Auditing Associates and/or any 3rd party contractors; adjusting staffing as needed to assure coverage for Auditing, PPAPs, 8130-3 Airworthiness Tag Creation, and any containment tasks. Finally, this position plans, schedules, and coordinates the detailed phases of major quality system projects, involving and leveraging Corporate Quality resources as necessary to address and resolve issues.



1)    Lead for assigned business priority problems (targeted at measurable improvements in safety, quality, delivery, and/or cost). Complete and document the following actions: Select approach / strategy, clarify problem, identify/confirm root cause, develop/confirm corrective actions. Complete and document the actions required to converge on and confirm the root cause.

2)    Lead the resolution of External and Internal issues/non-conformances, working with customers and Timken plants; participates as the champion or member in 8D or 3D preparation. Acts on behalf of Timken to assure that an honest, thorough, and factual analysis of each issue is completed and that any proposed actions will effectively protect the customer’s interests against future occurrences of the issue in question.

3)    Facility lead/expert for quality system requirements ensuring facility compliance. Acts as the DDC facility Quality Representative as needed. Coordinates third party audits. Ensures the Internal Audit schedule is up to date and that both Certified Internal Auditors and the pack-line and OQA auditors are all adequately trained for their respective roles. Conducts facility and department audits and identifies any areas for quality system improvements.

4)    Supervises Auditing associates to assure staffing coverage, drive an effective audit process (including coding accuracy, audit thoroughness, & completeness), and encourage a high volume/percentage of audit completion.

5)    Participates in quality planning activities for product and process development per customer-specific requirements (MMOG), PFMEAs, and (if needed) prepares and updates PPAP’s per requirements. Review specific process defects for analysis.

6)    Owner for quality-related procedures/standards and updates policies and procedures. Performs plant-level training for quality-related topics/needs. Maintains knowledge of current quality and safety systems and other regulatory compliance related to this position.

7)    Supervises associate’s work related to non-conforming product/process and quality system adherence. Guides work on quality-related projects, ensuring compliance to company and customer quality requirements.

8)    Works closely with associates in the FAA/PMA work area to assure that customer-specific requirements are met including those related to but not limited to receiving, etching, inspection, certification, packaging, and shipping. Represents Timken with respect to FAA communications and requirements, acting as the Accountable Manager for the FAA’s Atlanta MIDO office; holding a valid DMIR Certification at a minimum.


Technical/Functional Skills

1)    Competent in the utilization of the 8-step Timken Problem Solving Process 
2)    Competent in the utilization of the Timken 8D and 3D Processes (and if required, any Customer-Specific Problem Solving Process)
3)    Skilled in the supervision of operative associates and exempt associates including those in auditing roles
4)    Strong data analysis, SPC, customer service and other relevant technical and soft skills
5)    Significant knowledge of customer-specific quality system requirements
6)    Knowledge of & skilled in technical writing, recurring report generation, engineering drawing reading & interpretation, and creating & giving presentations
7)    Strong proficiency with JDA/Red Prairie, SAP, MS Office Applications, and various Timken Applications (QIM, Engineering Systems, Quality Systems, etc.)
8)    At least 2 years of Manufacturing and Inspection Knowledge



BACHELOR of Business, Engineering, Industrial Management or related



Licenses or Certifications


ISO-9001/IATF-16949 Lead Auditor


Previous Job Experiences

BACHELOR ISO9001/TS16949 quality system knowledge

Min. 7 years related experience; Preferred 10 years
