Lovejoy, a company in the Timken family of brands, is hiring a Sr Application Engineer.

 

The Sr Application Engineer is to be the primary technical resource for the field sales force, customer service, product managers, supply chain, operations, and customer base.

 

Sr Application Engineer must be able to identify and provide reliable solutions for all technical issues to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the sales process and maintain strong relationships throughout the sales cycle.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Performs System Analysis:  For customer specific data input analyzes the drive train from prime mover through the final driven equipment including any intermediate connections or power takeoffs.  Selecting the most appropriate coupling and coupling features for each position within the drive train. This may include but is not limited to Torsional vibration analysis, balance requirements, mass elastic calculations and hub to shaft torque transmission capability for keyless shafting.

 

Develops Technical and/or Functional Competitive Interchanges: Ensures appropriate inclusions and exclusions to customer’s requirement, protect the company from requirement that may request cost or proprietary data and, to ensure the product selected can be manufactured at a cost-effective price point.

Product Quality/Failure Analysis: Perform product failure analysis, support customer quality complaints then provide reports to management, production, sales, and customer. This could include CAR support for quality department.

 

Support the Sales Process: Present technical information to customers through formal presentations, sales conferences, and web meeting.  Assist Sales Engineer in the goal to influence buying decisions of customers. Target results to known customer needs, adding value to the customer and to Timken.

 

Perform Product and Application Training: Develop and lead training for internal & external stakeholders (new associates, customers, distributors, etc) with ongoing shorter duration product / application training of the customer service department to better help them serve their customer during the first interaction.

 

Knowledge Development: Maintain technical awareness of, and participation in the marketplace, through reading, visiting existing and prospective customers, attending seminars, trade fairs, training programs, etc. Work with the marketing department to develop, maintain, check, and improve the product catalogs, installation instructions, installation videos, interchange guides, customer UX digitalization efforts, etc.

 

TECHNICAL/FUNCTIONAL SKILLS:

 

  • A technical background sufficient to understand the technologies and technical issues involved within the territory, project and the industries, to anticipate and identify technical obstacles and to make reasoned and appropriate recommendations.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative and team building skills; Able to partner with different personalities and responsibilities, demonstrating conflict management and negotiation skills.
  • Strong business acumen with ability to quickly develop and display knowledge of the product portfolio to aide in growth of the business
  • Results oriented; ability to commit to and follow initiatives through to completion.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a heavy industrial, harsh environment (machines operating, grease, dirt, grime, abnormal heat, humidity or cold) help inspect equipment at a customer and/or end-user facility).

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in engineering or mechanical
  • Master's degree is preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years experience in Technical Applications engineering position for mechanical based systems
  • Strong communication, Interpersonal and organizational skills with proven Project Management skills are required.
